It’s normal for photographers to end up with flaws after taking shots. No matter how competent a photographer is, errors are bound to happen. Some photographs may contain color & exposure issues, some may have wrinkles, while others may end up having spots, blemishes, and acnes.
However, every problem has a solution, so does imperfect photographs. You can get rid of all these flaws and imperfections through various methods. But some of these methods are intricate which surely you wouldn’t want to follow.
This tutorial will walk you through how to remove small imperfections like spots, blemishes, and acnes from portraits in Photoshop through 2 different methods. Let’s get cracking…
The first thing you should do is select and open your image in Photoshop. Then, unlock the background layer with a single click on the lock icon.
After that, duplicate the layer by right-clicking the mouse and selecting “Duplicate the Layer” from the menu items. Alternatively, press Ctrl + J as a keyboard shortcut to duplicate the layer.
Now, move to the toolbar and navigate to “Spot Healing Brush” tool. Select the tool to repair your image or fix the spots or blemishes from the skin.
Now, it’s time to brush over the spots visible on the skin. Make sure to find all the spots and brush over them to get a clean and crisp skin. Adjust your brush size for smooth brushing if needed.
With every brush stroke, the spots and stains will disappear. Once your facial skin looks spot-free and perfect, that’s your final output.

It’s time now to circle over the spots or acnes visible on the skin. Make sure to find all the acnes on the photo skin.
At first, draw circle around one spot and then hold the “Shift” button to circle over the other spots.
However, it’s not mandatory to circle all the spots at one go. You can circle the spots in multiple rounds and sample a clean part of skin on the spots.
Once all the blemishes are circled, left-click on any circle and drag all of them to a clean area that you want to sample on the blemishes to remove them. Then, click Ctrl + D to deselect the spotted areas.
Once the skin of your photo looks crisp, glowing, and acne-free, that’s your final output.
This is how easily you can remove blemishes from your portraits or repair your portrait skins. Try any of the above methods to eliminate skin defects like spots, pimples, acnes, etc.
