Perspective Correction: Fish Eye Correction using Photoshop Adaptive Wide Angle
Sometimes perspective in photo shoot can most of the time get distorted. Unless you like or think that perspective distortion is cool, it can be quite unpresentable. That’s why Perspective Correction is important to have professional quality photo. Many times you may need to shoot images using wide angle lenses that creates lens distortions. In this situation, if you want to edit photos professionally, you should use Adaptive Wide Angle filter in Photoshop. This filter enables you to straighten curved lines in panoramas or photos that have been shot with fish-eye and wide angle lenses. For those who are not familiar with these terms, it is about photographs where buildings or big constructions images seem to be leaning inwards or outwards. These type of Fish Eye and Adaptive Wide Angle photos can easily be edited in Photoshop using the Adaptive Wide Angle filter.
How It Works
The filter can give a very cool look in your photo editing work. While you apply this filter, it detects camera and lens model features. To straighten the images, it provides multiple constraints to indicate straight distorted lines in different portions of the images. Adaptive wide angle filter uses this information to remove distortion from your photo. However, you can still use this filter if your image doesn’t have camera and lens information.
Based on our practical experience of using Adaptive Wide Angle filter in Photoshop, here are the steps:
- Open up your photo in Photoshop and create duplicate of the image so that you can have the original image if it gets damaged. Notice the image below, we have used a photo that is curved due to lens distortion. For this tutorial we’ve used Photoshop CS6.
- Click on the Filter from the top menu bar. You will get a drop down menu and select Adaptive Wide Angle tool.
- A dialogue box will appear and here you have to work. Take Constraint tool and start to draw line on the curved line to straighten.
- Click on the bent line where it starts and secondly click on the end of it. You will get constraints that will give more control to remove bent line. Your image will get this look. Heed that this image is almost straightened.
- If you have further bent line in your image, draw line there. It will get straightened automatically. Lastly, click on Ok from the upper top right corner and wait to progress. You will get desired straight photo. But, look at the above image, you can see some hollow space which will be filled while clicking on Ok. Now, you should crop the image proportionately using Crop Tool or use Content-Aware Fill. See the image we cropped below.
Finally, what the result we have got is the attached image below. Here, we have also given before and after to make you sense a difference between the main image and result image.
This is an awesome lens distortion removing Photoshop filter that helps you to remove bent line from your image and make a wide angel image pop. You may have cut some pixels from your image, but still it will have a great look that is better than the first one.
